In this conversation with The Décor Journal India, Ar. Sunny Gupta shares insights into his journey, design philosophy, and the evolving language of luxury in contemporary India.
Q. Tell us about your journey into architecture and design. What shaped your decision to start your own practice?
My journey has always been driven by a curiosity about how spaces influence human experiences. Over time, I realised that design is not just about creating something visually appealing it’s about shaping environments that people connect with. Starting my own practice gave me the freedom to explore this idea more deeply and to create spaces that are truly customised and meaningful.
Q. How would you define the core philosophy behind Fantini Designs?
At Fantini Designs, our philosophy is centered around personalization and craftsmanship. We believe every space should tell a story one that reflects the client’s personality and lifestyle. Our approach is to combine aesthetics with functionality while ensuring a high level of detail and execution.
Q. Your work strongly reflects luxury living. How do you interpret ‘luxury’ in today’s context?
Luxury today is evolving. It’s no longer just about expensive materials or large spaces it’s about exclusivity and experience. True luxury lies in thoughtful design, attention to detail, and the ability to create something that feels unique to the individual.
Q. Customization seems to be a defining aspect of your projects. How integral is it to your process?
It’s absolutely central. No two clients are the same, and that’s why no two projects should be either. From conceptual planning to the smallest design detail, everything is tailored to suit the client. This ensures that the space feels authentic and personal.
Q. How does your studio ensure a seamless transition from design to execution?
We follow an integrated design approach where execution is as important as the concept. Being involved in every stage allows us to maintain quality and ensure that the final outcome aligns perfectly with the original vision.

Q. What typologies does your firm primarily focus on?
We work across residential, commercial, and hospitality projects, but our strength lies in high-end residential interiors. These projects allow us to fully explore bespoke detailing and create spaces that are rich in character and individuality.
Q. What role does materiality play in your design language?
Materiality is extremely important. We often work with natural materials and layered textures to create depth and warmth. The idea is to make spaces feel tactile and inviting, while maintaining a refined aesthetic. “Materials are not just finishes they are storytellers within a space.”
Q. How do you incorporate sustainability into your projects?
Sustainability is becoming an essential part of design. We focus on responsible material choices, efficient planning, and creating spaces that are timeless so they don’t need constant redesigning. Longevity itself is a form of sustainability.
Q. Craftsmanship is clearly visible in your work. How do you collaborate with artisans and vendors?
Craftsmanship is what brings a design to life. We work closely with skilled artisans and fabricators to ensure precision and quality. This collaboration helps us achieve the level of detailing that defines our projects.
Q. How do you see the future of luxury interiors evolving in India?
The future lies in personalization and experiential design. Clients today are more aware and seek spaces that reflect their individuality. There’s also a growing interest in blending global design ideas with local craftsmanship, which is very exciting.
Q. What continues to inspire you as a designer?
Inspiration comes from many sources travel, art, culture but most importantly, from the clients themselves. Each project is a new opportunity to create something unique.
With a design philosophy rooted in personalization, craftsmanship, and experiential luxury, Ar. Sunny Gupta continues to shape a distinct voice in India’s contemporary design landscape. Through Fantini Designs, he is not just creating spaces, but curating environments that resonate with identity, emotion, and timeless appeal—redefining modern luxury living for a new generation.
